imagine if you will

We had our first swim in the Mediterranean. Ok, technically the Adriatic Sea. Well, technically the Bay of Kotor. And, it’s just heavenly. I’m a wimpy swimmer in that I don’t do cold water. So that rules out all spots in Northern California. Here, though, the summer water temp has reached around 80 degrees F, so I’m in!

It was my first serene moment to actually relax and marvel at where we are and what we’re doing. (Insert sigh.) In the water, I was trying to figure out how to even begin to describe the scene. I had no phone to take photos. So imagine if you will…

  • cool, refreshing water that is blue and so clear you can see all the way down to the bottom if you haven’t swum out too deep.
  • a beach formed from pebbles and rocks as opposed to sand, so entering the water is tough on tender feet. (After our second swim, I resolved to bring my dorky swim shoes for the next time. It will be worth it!)
  • amazing green mountains surrounding the bay.
  • glorious sunshine sparkling across the water.
  • a blue sky with the odd white cloud.
  • locals strewn out across the beach and in the water, ranging from naked preschoolers to elderly grandparents. It’s lovely to see so many families and multi-generational ones at that.
  • peaceful quiet, except for the occasional child squealing with delight (or not)

This is my best form of exercise right now, so it’s breast stroking off to the buoy and back… Conor goes for much longer swims after toodling around with me.

Got these from our second visitThis beach is just about a 5-10 minute walk from our boat.
