Good Morning

It’s our fifth morning on Sabática since we moved aboard, and we’re just starting to get some new morning routines established.

Conor is the early bird and he likes to rise with the sun and have his coffee, read a bit, check messages and the news, then go for a walk around the area. He’s still trying to figure out where (literally) to also fit in a bit of a workout without making a spectacle of himself.

I don’t rise as quickly. I enjoy the comfortable cabin with the fan blowing and check messages on my phone that came in overnight. After a ponytail is up and deodorant is on, I love to check our personal aquarium to see what’s going on out there. Usually not a lot yet, but it’s cool to see the occasional school of small fish.

I make my cup of tea, though let it cool way down. There are the dishes to put away that were all hand washed the previous evening and the clothes and towels to bring in that were put on the line to dry at the end of yesterday. It is extremely European to hang laundry out to dry, though not something we’re used to in the US. Conor is, of course, very used to the practice, but I’m finally having to come around to it as there is no choice.

Next up is hydration and brunch on the boat, then finding out what the Skipper’s plan for the day is. We have friends arriving tomorrow, so I’m thinking the day’s tasks will involve a lot of cleaning!

P.S. I was up early enough one morning to catch Conor still having his morning coffee on the foredeck. (See top photo) The best word to describe the mornings is serenity. So peacefully quiet, with the occasional clank of sailboat masts, the sun warming your skin on the one hand, but a wonderful cool breeze to temper it. I can see why Conor loves the early mornings so much.
