Meet Sabática

She’s our new home for the next unforeseeable future. She is a 2019 Bali 4.1 catamaran, and we love her already. She’s beautiful and very comfortable with four bedrooms (berths) and two full bathrooms (heads). She’s not going to be winning any races, but Conor had me and my requirements in mind when figuring out what kind of boat would work best for our adventures. Marriage is all about compromise, right?!

What’s our plan, you ask? Well, that’s a great question. It’s a bit open-ended! We’ve rented out our house for a year, sold our cars, gotten rid of a ton of things, stored other things, and brought with us our remaining clothes and possessions (along with lots of boat tools and books) in four large and two small suitcases. We made this journey from San Francisco to Tivat, Montenegro, landing here June 27, 2022. We have our first six months fairly planned out, cruising up and down the coast of Croatia, visiting Venice, and ending up in Sicily for the off season (October-April). We’re excited to have lots of family and friends planning to visit and take part in various parts of this season’s journey. Especially excited to have our two kids join us for the first three weeks of August!

In this blog I hope to document our adventures, learnings, and musings as they pertain to our travels as well as living life on a boat. It’s certainly not starting out as other cruisers’ blogs (very boat focused), rather it’s coming from the point of view of a gal who knows not enough yet about boats nor boat life, but is looking forward to this growth opportunity! Hopefully Conor will add some posts now and again to provide his perspective along with the more techy boat stuff. Hope you’ll stick around!

  3. Thanks for creating a blog for the rest of us to follow. Oh my, it all sounds so heavenly. I thought about you guys every day while on the Amalfi Coast and saw all of the amazing boats.

  4. Conor – the boat looks fabulous. And hello Lisa (We’ve not met yet but I know Conor well and I am assuming you are writing the blogs). I’ve been following it all which is so wonderfully written.
It looks so much fun and great photographs!
I am surprised with how much space and kitchen and refrigerator and all the comforts you can have on your boat (you can tell I know nothing about boats). I wish you a great time and stay safe and healthy.
See you back in California soon Conor.
