Croatia or Austin, TX?

The real adventure is beginning – ahead of us is all unknown and only extremely loosely planned. We’re making our way north up the coast of Croatia and picking spots to stop as we go.

While we loved the quaint spot of Luka Prozura, we had no internet. And yes, it’s wonderful to completely unplug at times. However, I had a meeting I needed to attend, so we uprooted and headed further northwest along the island of Mljet to Luka Polače. It proved to be a lovely spot, with a tiny town, amidst the Mljet National Park.

The town of Polače

We had another first here – an anchorage with a stern line secured to shore. I think Conor had fun using the dinghy to get to shore and figuring out how to make it all work. He did a great job and we were quite secure through our entire stay. He also downloaded the app AnchorPro to alert us if our anchor had any issues.

We took a rest day, basically chilling on the boat, working and swimming. The landscape actually reminded us quite a lot of Austin, TX, though the water was bluer, clearer and filled with fun schools of fish.

Beautiful sunset

In the morning, we investigated the town and decided we’d have to return on our way back down the Croatian coast in September when the weather would hopefully be cooler in order to hike some of the big trails through the national park. For now, though, we’re moving on.

Ruins of a Roman palace from the 5th century (thus the town name of Polače)

  1. If possible try and visit Rovinj, in Istrian area, it’s a fishing port, very Italian style, beautiful town and fabulous food and wine, we loved our visit there when in Croatia
